Tool Overview

The Online Bank Card Number Validity Check Tool can quickly verify whether a bank card number is valid. This tool uses the Luhn algorithm for validity checking and supports validity checks for 16-digit or 19-digit bank card numbers.

About the Luhn Algorithm

The Luhn algorithm, or Luhn formula, is also known as the "modulus 10 algorithm." It is a simple checksum formula generally used to validate ID card numbers, IMEI numbers, US supplier identification numbers, and Canadian social insurance numbers. The algorithm was created by IBM scientist Hans Peter Luhn, who filed a patent application for it on January 6, 1954, and was granted it on August 23, 1960, with US patent number 2950048.

Its characteristics and general algorithm are:

1. Starting from the last digit of the card number, multiply the digits in even positions by 2; if the result of multiplying by 2 is a two-digit number, subtract 9 from the result.

2. Add up all the digits to get the total.

3. If the credit card number is valid, the total is divisible by 10.
