Blood Type Calculator
Calculate possible child blood types from parents
Tool Guide
Introduction to the Online Blood Type Calculator
The Online Blood Type Calculator quickly estimates the range of possible blood types of children based on the parents' blood types. Generally, blood type is unchanging for life, so if the parents' blood types are known, the possible blood types of the children can be inferred.
Based on the ABO blood group inheritance rules and Mendelian genetics, this tool helps users understand the scientific mechanism of blood type inheritance. It is suitable for medical study, genetic research, parent-child blood type matching analysis, and other scenarios.
Blood types are usually divided into four kinds—A, B, O, and AB—determined by chromosomal inheritance. Human cells have a total of 23 pairs of chromosomes, half from the father and half from the mother.
Using known parental blood types, one can infer the possible blood type combinations of children, helping users quickly obtain relevant genetic information.
How to Use the Online Blood Type Calculator
Select the parents' blood types: In the calculator, select both parents' blood types (A, B, O, AB), or the blood types of you and your spouse.
Click Calculate: The system automatically estimates the possible blood types of the children.
View the result: It clearly shows the heritable blood types and the possible blood types.
Blood Type Inheritance Rules
ABO blood group inheritance basics: Blood type is determined by three alleles—A, B, and O—and a child's blood type is influenced by the combination of the parents' genes.
Common parental blood types and children's blood type possibilities:
A + A → A / O
A + B → A / B / AB / O
A + O → A / O
B + B → B / O
B + O → B / O
AB + A → A / B / AB
AB + B → A / B / AB
AB + O → A / B
AB + AB → A / B / AB
O + O → O
Frequently Asked Questions About Online Blood Type Estimation (FAQ)
What is the basis for this blood type calculator?
This tool is based on the ABO blood group inheritance rules and uses Mendelian genetics principles for calculation—scientific and reasonable.
Why can't AB-type parents have O-type children?
AB-type parents' gene combination does not contain the O gene, so their children cannot be type O.
If the parents have the same blood type, will the children definitely have the same blood type?
Not necessarily. For example, two type A parents may have type O children, because type A may carry the O gene.
Can this tool calculate Rh positive/negative blood types?
This tool currently only calculates ABO blood types and does not support Rh positive/negative blood type calculation.
Can the results be used for medical identification?
This tool is for study and reference only. For medical identification, please consult a professional doctor.
