Text Line Padding
Free online tool to pad text lines with characters to reach a specified length.
Tool Guide
Introduction
An online text line padding tool — a typesetting aid for aligning and fixing the width of multiline data. It supports padding the left, right, or both (centered) sides of each line of text with a specific length of spaces or custom characters, to meet data alignment or fixed field format requirements.
Key Features
- Smart multi-directional padding: Supports three basic padding directions — "pad left (prefix padding)," "pad right (suffix padding)," and "centered symmetric alignment."
- Precise width control: Freely slide or type to set the total target width of each line. If the original line is too short, it's automatically padded with the set character; if it's too long, you can choose to keep or truncate it.
- Data cleaning and typesetting: For code snippets that need aligned printed output, or roster fields written to fixed-width database files, this tool delivers ultimate typesetting speed.
How to Use
- In the input area above, paste the multiline original string you want to align.
- Set the total target width you need per line (e.g. 20 characters), enter the character to pad with in the padding-character box (default is a space), and choose the padding direction.
- Click "Run Text Padding", and the system will output the aligned, formatted character view on the right/below — click to copy or download directly.
