We often hear technicians say things like inflate to 2.5 kg, inflate to 2.5 bar, inflate to 33 psi, inflate to 230 kPa—do you know what all these tire pressure expressions actually mean?

Among common tire pressure representations, there are 3 types: psi, bar, and kpa. What are the differences between them?

1. psi, full name Pounds per square inch, where P is pound, S is square, and I is inch, with the unit "lb/in²" and the Chinese name "pound/square inch." psi is mainly a unit commonly used in Europe and America and is rarely used domestically.

2. bar, Chinese name "ba," is mainly a tire pressure unit used domestically. The conversion formula is: 1 bar = 1 standard atmosphere (atm) = 1 kgf/cm².

3. kpa, Pa is Pascal, representing the pressure of one Newton acting on one square meter. 1 bar = 100 kpa

The conversion relationships between psi, bar, and kpa are:

1 bar = 100 kPa ≈ 14.5 psi

Electric air pumps generally mark the bar or psi unit. We can check the recommended tire pressure value on the tire; if it's in bar or psi, just read the gauge directly, but if it's in kpa, you need to convert kpa to psi.

Tire pressure is not fixed and needs to be flexibly adjusted according to the actual cargo load and season. Never let a tire stay in an underinflated state, or it will greatly affect the tire's service life and driving experience.
